Sangiani: since 1950, a history of hospitality in Aprica
After the management of the old and glorious Hotel Sangiani together with his father Francesco and his brothers Federico and Paolo, in 1968 Piero Sangiani bought the Hotel Cristallo. He was supported by his young wife Maria Antonia and his first son newly born. The structure was built a few years before, just a hundred meters far from the Palabione cableway, the indisputable heart of Aprica, a location that would become one of the most successful destination for winter and summer tourism. In the following years Aprica hosted the World Cup of Alpine Ski, many arrivals of the Giro d’Italia, World Series in combined with Sankt Moritz, stages of Festivalbar, Ferrari meetings and many other events of great interest.
Famous people like Ezio Greggio, Riccardo Fogli, Gianluca Grignani, Ivana Spagna, Fausto Leali, Alexia, Martina Colombari, Marco Pantani, Claudio Chiappucci, Francesco Moser, Ingemar Stenmark, Gustav Thoeni, Franz Klammer, Ernesto Pellegrini, the ex-minister Frattini, and many other personalities attended this historic Hotel of the Sangiani family.
The Cristallo, as confidentially called by the loyal Customers that for decades had spent there their holidays, reached his highest peak in the eighties and nineties. In 1995 it was subject to an important restyling. In 2013 the Hotel ceased the activity, waiting for a radical renovation that will bring it to the reference Hotel and Residence in Valtellina.
